Size of a contactless transaction in France 2014-2022, in local currency and USD
Contactless purchases - performed either with cards or mobile wallets - in France averaged roughly 17 euros, or nearly 20 dollars, in 2021. This according to estimates based on the overall value of debit card transactions against the number of transactions within the country. These numbers have only been reported on an annual basis. Contactless or tap to pay payments in France increased sizably in 2020, as one of the COVID-19 measures was to increase to contactless card limit. This accelerated the growth of this digital payment method within the European country.
