Value added of travel and tourism to GDP in Egypt 2019-2023
Travel and tourism added around 32 billion U.S. dollars to Egypt's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022. Compared to 2021, this was an increase from 22.3 billion U.S. dollars. The sector's contribution to the country's economy declined almost by half in 2020 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In 2019, the value added by tourism to the Egyptian GDP reached close to 31.5 billion U.S. dollars. Furthemore, the travel and tourism sector was forecast to contribute 35.1 billion U.S. dollars to the GDP in 2023.
