In the fiscal year 2021, around 4.7 million long-term care patients in Japan received daycare services at community-based nursing facilities. Approximately 2.5 million dementia patients received care services at group homes they lived in. The community-based long-term care system was established in 2006 to support the lives of the elderly in the local areas. Facilities and services are managed and provided by municipalities.
