Greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union 2022, by country
Germany was the biggest contributor to EU-27 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2022, having released the equivalent of 782 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂e) into the atmosphere. This was almost double the GHG emissions produced by Italy, the bloc's second-largest emitter. Since 1990, the majority of EU members have experienced considerable greenhouse gas emissions reductions.
