This statistic displays the sales value of prescribing over-the-counter medication in the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2015. Paracetamol, aspirin and ibruprofen are classified as pain relief drugs which can be purchased cheaply over-the-counter (OTC). OTC medication means that a prescription for purchase is not necessary and in the UK these drugs are available in many supermarketes, drug stores and convenience stores across the four countries. In 2015, the NHS spent 142 million British pounds on OTC medicines, of which, Paracetamol accounted for 87.6 million British pounds.
