Gender representation in Indian ads 2019-2023
In 2023, there was a significant shift in the portrayal of gender in Indian advertisements. Around 45 percent of ads depicted only women in their narratives, an increase from the 36 percent recorded in 2019. Conversely, the proportion of ads featuring only men decreased from 16 percent in 2019 to about ten percent in 2023. Additionally, there was a notable decline in the share of ads showcasing both men and women together during the same period.
