Freedom of expression score in Madagascar 2000-2022
In 2022, Madagascar attained a score of 56 in the Global Expression Report (GxR), which has remained constant since 2020. Over the observed period, the freedom of speech and openness of the society was at its best in 2018, when it received a score of 64. This was at the time when Andry Rajoelina was elected as president, which brought some stability to the country. Furthermore, the score was at its lowest in 2009, with 46 points due to political crisis. A higher GxR score indicates a more open society with greater freedom of expression.
