Equatorial Guinea: freedom of expression score 2022

In 2022, Equatorial Guinea scored three points in the Global Expression Report (GxR). This was lower than the previous year, when the country scored four points. The country received the second worst score on the African continent in 2022, only one point higher than Eritrea. During the observed period, the country registered its highest score between 2000 and 2010 at five points which is among the lowest in the world. GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.

The source adds the following information regarding the metric: The Global Expression Report’s metric (the GxR Metric) tracks freedom of expression across the world. In 161 countries, 25 indicators were used to create an overall freedom of expression score for every country, on a scale of 1 to 100 which places it in an expression category.
