Railcars per day in Southern Africa 2017-2040, by regional rail network
As of 2017, the Ressano Garcia rail network (connecting Mozambique and South Africa) had the largest number of railcars (590) passing daily. Goba (between Eswatini and Mozambique) and Limpopo (connecting Mozambique to Zimbabwe) followed with significantly lower volumes of 70 and 50 railcars, respectively. In 2040, the number of railcars crossing the Ressano Garcia was forecast to reach 1,435. Furthermore, by the same year, 260 railcars per day are expected to use the Tazara and North-South railway lines each.
