Transit trade volume in Southern Africa 2017-2040, by regional corridor
As of 2017, North-South was the regional corridor in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) with the largest volume of trade passing through at almost 14 million metric tons. Maputo and Dar es Salaam corridors followed with 13.2 million and eight million metric tons, respectively. Furthermore, Maputo was forecast to reach 42.9 million metric tons by 2040, becoming the corridor with the largest volume of transit trade. North-South and Dar es Salaam corridors are forecast to rank second and third in 2040, with around 40.6 million and 27.5 million metric tons, respectively.
