Trust in mass media among U.S. adults 2001-2023
The share of adults in the United States who say that they trust mass media has been steadily on the decline since 2001. In 2001, the percentage of adults who were surveyed indicating that they placed 'a great deal of trust' or 'a fair amount of trust' in the media was 53 percent. This share dropped sharply to 44 percent in 2004. During the latest survey period, in September 2023, the share of adults in the U.S. who trusted mass media stood at 32 percent.
