Banking assets as percentage of GDP in Sub-Saharan Africa 2019-2020, by country
As of 2020, total assets of the banking sector in Mauritius corresponded to over 400 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The ratio, which provides an insight on the relationship between services provided by banks and the economy‘s size, was at its highest in the island among all other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. In South Africa, the indicator was measured at 136.5 percent of GDP, while in Tanzania it was recorded at nearly 26 percent of GDP.
