Global Peace Index in Sub-Saharan Africa 2021, by country
Mauritius was the most peaceful country in Sub-Saharan Africa as of 2021. The country scored 1.59 in the Global Peace Index and ranked 28th out of 163 countries globally. Ghana and Botswana also positioned on the top of the ranking, with scores of 1.72 and 1.75, respectively. On the other hand, South Sudan was the least peaceful African nation and ranked 160th in the world. The Global Peace Index measures peacefulness based on 23 quantitative and qualitative indicators each weighted on a scale of 1-5. The lower the score the more peaceful the country.
