Pedestrians killed in traffic accidents in the European Union (EU-28) 2010-2018
Between 2010 and 2018, more than 51,000 pedestrians died in the EU. The year 2011 was the most tragic one: over 6,400 pedestrians were killed in traffic-related accidents that year, the most in the recorded period. In 2018, this number dropped to some 5,200. It remains unclear whether European streets became safer for pedestrians, or whether fewer people dared to participate in traffic.
