During the 2019-20 school year, around 991,300 million school children and youths in the United States were doubled-up meaning they were sharing housing with others due to a loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason. During the same year, an additional 88,663 children and youths were staying in hotels or motels due to a lack of adequate accommodations.
