Number of older people who died in house fires Japan 2013-2022
In 2022, 731 people aged 65 years or older died due to accidental house fires in Japan, the highest number in over a decade. Elderly people are more vulnerable to the dangers of house fires than the general population, as is shown by their disproportionate share in fatalities. In 2022, their age group made up more than 75 percent of all deaths to accidental house fires.
