U.S. consumers' spending on multi-room speakers in the U.S. 2017
As of 2017, more than one in five U.S. respondents (18 to 59 years old and owner of smart multi-room speakers / wireless speakers) spend in excess of US$500 on a one-time purchase of these devices. The wireless speakers are a popular entity amongst the respondents with another 27% having spent up to $250 on them.
Wave of smart home devices in the U.S.
United States is a booming market for smart home devices with more and more consumers looking to smarten up their homes: From 2016 to 2019, the sale of smart home devices in the U.S. grew by more than 3%. Smart TVs are currently the most popular smart devices amongst U.S. respondents followed by wireless speakers and thermostats.
Smart speakers
Smart speakers have come a long way from 2014, when Amazon launched Amazon echo for the very first time. The total number of smart speakers in the U.S. households amounted to about 119 million at the end of 2018, an increase of 52 million devices from the previous year. Amazon is currently the market leader in the field of smart speakers: More people use Amazon Echo than Google Home and Apple combined.
