Poverty rate of rural and urban areas in Malaysia 2007-2022
In 2022, the poverty rate of the urban population of Malaysia was at 4.5 percent, while rural poverty was at 12 percent. In 2019, Malaysia revised its national poverty line income, increasing it from 980 Malaysian ringgit to 2,208 Malaysian ringgit. This accounted for the increases in the poverty rate in 2016.
